Top 6 Reasons You Need Egnyte

Every modern company creates data, no matter what industry it’s in. While it’s easy to add more and more storage to your cloud or data center, that doesn’t necessarily mean you are making it easier to use and manage. Wouldn’t it be a better idea to know exactly where and what all of your data is, or set policies for how it gets stored or deleted? Egnyte lets you manage and access all of your data, no matter where it is. Today, we’ll look at six reasons to use Egnyte.

1) Seamless integration on your network

Egnyte is able to replace your file server without users even noticing a difference, which can be helpful in getting your team on board. Any environment in which you have a file server with mapped network drives can be switched seamlessly to Egnyte. If you’re hesitating on changing how you serve files because it will change how your network’s storage is structured, then it’s worth knowing that you can switch to Egnyte without having to remap every drive on every workstation on your network.

2) Great interface

With Egnyte, your files are available right in Windows Explorer (on Windows) or in Finder (on Mac), so the experience is exactly how you would expect it to be with a local or network drive. You can also use Egnyte’s web interface right in the browser. Their interface is clean and uncluttered, and the experience is very straightforward if you have used any other cloud file storage apps like Google Drive or Dropbox. Since Egnyte has a great app in the browser, you can worry less about workstations that run unsupported operating systems, and can confidently use it with the four main browsers: Edge, Safari, Firefox, and Chrome.

3) Doesn’t waste bandwidth by downloading whole folders

If you have a fairly large operation, a lot of users who work from home, or partners that need up-to-date versions of files as they’re being created, then your data needs all the agility you can get. Having a cloud solution like Egnyte means that you aren’t constantly uploading and downloading folders, but just working with the files that you need, when you need them. This can save a lot of bandwidth—especially at a large operation—compared to hosting a file server that will need to be accessible via the internet.

4) Collaboration

While your files live safely in the cloud, all of your employees can collaborate on them in real time. Using the web-interface, your employees can open a document in Preview Mode, which will give them a warning if the document is currently open or being edited. If that’s the case, then whoever is editing it needs to save the changes for the Preview to update. If you use Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, though, Egnyte has a button to launch the file in one of those platforms, which both allow live collaboration if two employees need to work on a document simultaneously.

5) Integrations and Partners

Speaking of integrations, Egnyte boasts a long list of important third-party apps and integrations from the biggest companies and platforms. If you use Google Workspace, it can fully integrate with your Egnyte storage, so your team can collaborate, manage, and access all of your local and cloud storage with the features of Google Drive. If you use Microsoft 365, you can use their Microsoft Office Desktop Add-in to use Egnyte from inside of Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

6) Top-notch Security and Authentication

All of these features come with essential security features, like encryption for files at rest and in transit. This means that your data is as secure as it can be in case someone snoops on your traffic, or if your data is leaked. The most important part of securing your data is properly authenticating users and giving them the proper folder permissions. If you use Microsoft’s Azure Active Directory then it can be used to authenticate your users on Egnyte. This will let you set up single sign-on, multifactor authentication, and conditional access, all of which help you rest easy by giving you the best possible tools to know that your users really are your users.
